ODE TO DICK CLARK
ODE TO DICK CLARK
When the spotlights called
To the founders of rock,
On the stage many elders still mock,
Littered with ashes and sprawling with cords,
Laughing as they falled,
As goddesses and lords,
They played for Richard Clark
In the mystical frills
Of the dark;
What television thrills
Set the land afire
When the bandstand wept wine
In an azure fire.
He ascended into his palace,
Before he would retire.
Now he drinks from a crystal chalice,
To the sound of rock and roll,
Blaring from a '57 Chevy,
As the church bells sadly toll.

When the spotlights called
To the founders of rock,
On the stage many elders still mock,
Littered with ashes and sprawling with cords,
Laughing as they falled,
As goddesses and lords,
They played for Richard Clark

Of the dark;
What television thrills
Set the land afire
When the bandstand wept wine

Blaring from a '57 Chevy,
As the church bells sadly toll.
